Established in 1983 as Sydney Aerobatic School - a specialist aerobatic training facility- Red Baron Flight training is Australia's premiere flight training school with a special interest in aerobatics.
In 2006 SAS was bought by Freestyle Aviation, which already owned Red Baron, a scenic and aerobatic joy flight company long associated with the school. Freestyle Aviation company directors, Joel Haski and Stephan Kljajic, both earned their pilot licences through SAS, and Joel was an instructor at the school for several years. Freestyle Aviation has a strong commitment to maintaining Sydney Aerobatic School's original philosophy and high standard of training, as well as introducing the best of modern training technologies
Many graduates have had long and successful careers in the Australian commercial and general aviation industry, and the Air Force, and several Australian aerobatic champions, at all levels of competition, are current and former students. Whether you choose to train for a PPL or CPL Red Baron Flight Training wants you to be a the most confident, competent aviator you can be, and for you to enjoy yourself as much as possible while you learn.
A WORD FROM JOEL HASKI
Thank you for inquiring about learning to fly with Red Baron Flight Training,
My name is Joel Haski; I am managing director of Red Baron. I have been an aviation professional for over 15 years, I am passionate about my work and my goal is to raise awareness of and standards in this industry. Please read on to learn why Red Baron Flight Training is the right flying school for you.
Red Baron Flight Training (RBFT) is Australia’s premiere flight school specialising in advanced aircraft handling and aerobatics. Originally established in 1983 as Sydney Aerobatic School (SAS), by Noel Kruse (a Former RAAF fighter pilot and flight instructor), it was initially set up to train licensed pilots in aerobatics but it was not long before people were asking to be trained from the ground up. I am a graduate of Sydney Aerobatic School and was an instructor there as well. I was also instrumental in helping build the Red Baron brand, long associated with the school.
In 2005 I purchased the Red Baron business and (in 2006) the school from Noel, who retired to New Zealand. It is my desire to continue the school’s unique and necessary contribution to the Australian aviation industry, while modernising and extending its reach.
I consider aerobatics to be a necessary component of flying training because a pilot who can perform even basic aerobatic manoeuvres is a more confident, competent pilot; even in non-aerobatic aircraft.
All of my courses are designed to meet three specific goals:
- To train you to fly your aircraft with confidence so you gain the maximum enjoyment from your flying;
- To train you to a standard of competence, which will make you a true competitor in the Aviation industry job market;
- To make you the safest possible pilot, by giving you the ultimate insurance policy - superior skill.
Regardless of whether you take up flying as a hobby, a sport or a career it is important to get the best value out of every flight dollar you spend. If your initial training is of a low standard then the rest of your flying is likely to take longer and cost more over time. I believe if you learn at a high standard from the beginning you will reap the rewards of a better quality experience and more enjoyable flying in the future.
My courses are designed, not to a minimum standard, but to a competent standard. My handpicked instructors are professionals, flight training is their career, and they are all accomplished aerobatic pilots.
Since acquiring the business I have invested heavily in new aircraft, the latest of which is our Extra 200, brother to the Red Bull Air Race Extra 300. I have also purchased a new Alpha 160a, a modern aerobatic and general flying training aircraft. My fleet of Alphas, Robins, Extras and Pitts Specials is both modern and classic, and with more aircraft on the way, there will be an aircraft to cater for all tastes.
Even though there is a reported pilot shortage today, no course or school can guarantee you a job in the industry. Positions will always go to the most qualified. Many of our graduates have had long and successful careers in Local and International Airlines, General Aviation and the Australian Defence Forces.
To foster the competitive spirit amongst students, RBFT conducts regular aerobatic competitions. We also have a close relationship with the Australian Aerobatic Club, and field a team for the annual State and National competitions. At Aerobatic Championships, our students have consistently ‘placed’, at times winning trophies in all grades of competition at the one championship! A succession of ‘Unlimited Aerobatic Champions of Australia' started their aerobatic careers at Sydney Aerobatic School. I am personally competing in many of our in-house and national competitions.
Red Baron Flight Training makes only one promise - to teach you to fly an aeroplane better and more confidently than any other flying school in Australia. Our courses are not the shortest or the cheapest: they are simply the best.
Please feel free to ask for me when visiting Red Baron Head Quarters, I would love to discuss your future in Aviation.
Kind Regards
Joel Haski
